Both criminology and forensic science share crime as the focus of their study.Forensic science is a "hands on" science, often engaged in crime solving through lab-based techniques. Criminology is a discipline which seeks to understand the cause of crime, study criminal behavior and criminal justice agencies .Security, intelligence,policing and crime prevention can only be made more effective through a stronger engagement between criminology and forensic science. This course-B.Sc.-M.Sc. Criminology and Forensic Sciences has two distinct contents – the criminological content includes sub-disciplines like victimology, penology, police administration, security management and the forensic science content includes divisions like forensic chemistry, forensic physics, questioned documents, finger prints, etc.This programme is a perfect blend of these two sister disciplines which will make a student suitable to aptly handle skills like criminal investigation, crime scene management, etc. This programme will have both lab-based and field-work based pedagogy with hands-on training and internships at forensic science laboratories and visits to Criminal Justice institutions like police stations, courts and prisons. Objectives of the programme: To make the students conversant with the causes and consequences of crime. To familiarise the students with various divisions of forensic science. To get the students acquainted with the structure and functioning of the Criminal Justice System and Forensic Science Laboratories. To develop in students, skill sets such as crime scene management and analysis of forensic science evidence.
